Linocut is a relief printmaking method.
You carve out a block, which is then inked up to print your image. You can print it again and again.
It’s a very mindful and relaxing technique.
You don’t need to be good at art to achieve great results.
You can get started with just a small amount of equipment.
A multiblock linocut uses several blocks of lino. With accurate registration of the blocks, you can create layers of colour within a print. Each block can represent a different colour, or they can overlap to create more.
-
The Adana printing press has been manufactured since 1922, and comes in different models and sizes.
It’s a platen press, most commonly used with moveable type or polymer plates.
It’s still possible to buy this press new, or they can often be found at online market places, auction houses and carboots.
Although easy to operate, the press requires some manual labour which some may find difficult. If you have any concerns, please get in touch.
-

You’ll learn common mistakes and how to prevent them.
-
A one-to-one session, covering technical aspects of printing with an Adana printing press.
We’ll start with the fundamentals of the press, including operation and maintenance.
You’ll then carve a key block, usually of the darkest colour in your image.
We’ll transfer your key block onto one more block.
You’ll carve your additional block, proofing as you go to test registration and colour interaction.
We’ll print your first block, followed by your second block with accurate registration.
Demonstrations will be provided throughout the session, with the opportunity to ask plenty of questions.
Please note, this session can only be booked mid-week (Monday to Friday).
The workshop is held in a beautiful and creative print studio, which is fully accessible. More information about my studio can be found here.
