Multiblock Linocut
Learn how to experiment with colour through layering multiple lino blocks in this 4-hour workshop.
A multiblock linocut uses several blocks of lino. With accurate registration of the blocks, you can create layers of colour within a print. Each block can represent a different colour, or they can overlap to create more.
In a relaxed environment and under close tuition with Frankie, you’ll first create a key block for your print. You'll learn how to transfer your key block across another block, and create further layers of colour. You’ll learn how to register your blocks to make a perfect print. At the end of the session, you’ll print a small edition of your multiblock linocut to take home with you.
All skill levels are welcome to attend, including beginners. We’ll be using images prepared to a theme, to help learn the technique within the time frame. After the session, you will feel confident to apply the method with your own design. We'll go through the session step-by-step, and there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions.
More details are below. You must be 16+ to attend. Workshops are held at the Round Tower, next door to my studio in Portsmouth, UK.

You’ll then carve a key block, usually of the darkest colour in your image.
We’ll transfer your key block onto one more block, with accurate registration
You’ll carve your additional block, proofing as you go to test colour interaction.
We’ll ink up our blocks and hand burnish our prints, or try using a printing press.
Demonstrations will be provided throughout the session, with the opportunity to ask plenty of questions.
